“Ric Tic” records was founded by Joanne Jackson Bratton and Ed Wingate in Detroit in the 1960’s.
The label was named after the deceased son of Bratton and her then husband Johnny Bratton, who was also an accomplished boxer. Their son Derek was known to the family as Ricky, Ric, or Ric-Tic, and had died in 1962 at the age of 11. In 1968 Berry Gordy, the owner of the rival “Motown” records paid $1 million for the label, in a deal that included many of the label’s artists, and associated labels such as “Golden World” records. The San Remo Golden Strings were a studio group from Detroit, Michigan. A number of its members also played in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, while others were members of the Motown backing band, known as The Funk Brothers. This disc from 1965 is in EXCELLENT condition, worth checking the flip too
