Corner Boys – Gang War – Neptune

Philadelphia’s Formations comprised Jerry Akines, Johnnie Bellmon, Victor Drayton and Reginald Turner, they recorded three singles at “MGM” records after the label picked up on “At The Top Of The Stairs” which was previously released on the local “Bank” records in 1967. Prior to that the group had backed a female vocalist as part of Margie & The Formations on “Coed” records. Unfortunately, the lack of chart success would see the group drop the Formations name – keeping the same lineup, and work under no less than three different names for five different labels over the next five years. Later in 1969 they recorded for Gamble & Huff’s “Neptune” records as The Corner Boys, then in 1970 they became The Silent Majority recording on “Hot Wax” records and in 1972 they became Hot Ice recording for “Atlantic” records. This disc has light wear to the vinyl, conservatively graded in VG++ condition, worth checking out the flip too
