Donnie Elbert was born on May 25th, 1936  in New Orleans, Louisiana, moving to Buffalo, New York. In 1955 he formed The Vibraharps. He left the group in 1957  and recorded for “Deluxe” records, leaving there in 1959, for “Red Top” records, “Vee-Jay” records,  “Parkway” records , “Cub” records and “Checker” records, but with little success. However, although the 1965 “Gateway” records release of “A Little Piece of Leather” failed to chart in the US, the record became a number 27 pop hit, when released on “London” records in the UK  in 1972. Donnie Elbert relocated to the UK in 1966, and recorded for “Polydor” records in 1968, then “Deram” records. He returned to the US and had his first US chart hit in over a decade on “Bullet” records, then moved to “All Platinum” records, followed by “Avco/Embassy” records. By the mid 1980s, he had retired from performing and became director of A&R for Polygram’s Canadian division. Donnie Elbert sadly died on January 26th, 1989. This disc from 1964 has light wear to the label and vinyl, conservatively graded in VG++ condition
