Esther Mae Jones was born on December 23rd, 1935 in Galveston, Texas. She won an amateur talent contest in 1949 at the Barrelhouse Club owned by Johnny Otis. Otis¬† added her to his traveling revue, The California Rhythm And Blues Caravan, billed as ‘Little Esther Phillips’. Her first record was for “Savoy” records in 1950, then signing for “Federal” records recording more than thirty sides. In the 1960’s she recorded for “Lenox” records then “Atlantic” records. In the 1970’s she recorded for “Kudu” records. Esther Phillipss sadly died on August 7th, 1984 in Carson, California. This disc from 1975 is in EXCELLENT condition, worth checking out the flip too
