Spar Records was founded in 1961 by Alan Bubis and William Beasley, who had previously owned “Tennessee” records and “Republic” records in the 1950’s. “Spar” records went out of business in the mid 1970’s. Herbert Hunter, along with his brother Rufus began singing, getting the attention of local music entrepreneur Ted Jarrett, who signed him to “Spar” records, which was owned by Bill Beasley and the Bubis brothers. He spent a lot of time singing cover versions for the subsidiary “Hit” records, often under a pseudonym. “Hit” records proved to be a financial success for the label, allowing Ted Jarrett to start a couple of his own labels, including “Poncello” records, taking Herbert Hunter with him. Herbert Hunter continued to record up until the 1990’s. This disc has a black cross on the label and wear, plays ok – Conservatively graded in VG condition
