James Joseph Brown was born on May 3rd, 1933 in Barnwell, South Carolina and joined Bobby Byrd’s group in 1954. The group had evolved from The Gospel Starlighters to an R&B group called The Avons, and eventually to The Flames, who signed to “King” records subsidiary “Federal” records in Cincinnati, Ohio, and released “Please, Please, Please” in 1956, selling over a million copies. In 1957 they changed their name to “James Brown and The Famous Flames” and continued to record successfully and continuously until he sadly died on December 25th, 2006. This disc from 1969 has a “stamp” on the label and light wear to the vinyl, conservatively graded in VG+ condition
