James Phelps – Don’t Be A Cry Baby – Fontana

James Phelps was born on April 2nd, 1932 in Shreveport, Louisiana, moving to Chicago in 1949 singing in the choir at The Greater Harvest Baptist Church with Lou Rawls before joining Mr. Rawls and The Holy Wonders. James founded the gospel group The Clefs Of Calvary, releasing two albums on “Tru Sound” records. James left his group to join The Soul Stirrers from 1964 until 1965. In 1965 James signed to “Chess” records, then recorded for a few other labels in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s including “Fontana” records, “Apache” records and “Paramount” records. James sadly died on October 26th, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. This disc from 1967 has light wear and writing on the label, conservatively graded in VG+ condition, worth checking out the flip too
