Ko Ko Taylor – Instant Everything – Yambo

£10.00

Yambo Records was a blues record label based in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded by arranger and composer Willie Dixon in the late 1960s after he left Chess Records. “Yambo” records also had two subsidiary labels, “Spoonful” records and “Supreme” records.
The label was based at 7711 South Racine Avenue in Chicago, along with Dixon’s related companies “Blues Factory” and “Soul Productions”. Cora Walton was born on September 28th, 1928 in Bartlett, Tennessee, and was dubbed “Koko” due to her love of chocolate, She was discovered by Willie Dixon in 1962 leading to a contract with “Chess” records. In close collaboration with Dixon she released several singles, including the 1965 “Wang Dang Doodle” previously recorded by Howlin’ Wolf. Not coincidental. Taylor’ had the most powerful vocal of the contemporary female Chess stablemates, and was known as “The Queen of Chicago Blues”. She moved to Dixon’s “Yambo” records in 1970 and from 1975 and for more than 30 years she recorded for “Alligator” Records. Koko sadly died on June 03rd, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois. This disc from 1970 has some slight “dishing”, otherwise is in EXCELLENT condition.
