“Sure Shot” records was a 1960s Texas label owned by Don Robey, as a subsidiary of his “Peacock” records. Although a Texas based label, they cast their net wide. Curtis Futch Jr. was born in Elonia, Georgia. He was raised in Briswick, Georgia, moving to Brooklyn, New York at an early age. He began singing when adopted by the Harris family, where he got the name Kurt Harris, recording “Emperor Of My Baby’s Heart” under that name on “Diamond” records. In order to get out of a recording contract he changed his name to Kurtis Scott, and recorded “No No Baby” and “No Place Like Home” on “Sure Shot” records in 1965. This disc has some superficial marks, whilst still retaining gloss, conservatively graded in VG++ condition, worth checking out the soulful flip too!!
