The Monclairs consisted of Jackie Cooper, Don Gregory and Sam Blackshall. They started out in the Cleveland R&B clubs as teenagers, competing with groups like Lou Ragland and the Bandmasters, and the Sahibs. They gained a lot of momentum with their 1st 45 – the instrumental “Happy Feet Time”. The song was a hit on Cleveland’s R&B and top 40 stations and the group appeared on Upbeat. Atlantic records picked up the 45 for national distribution, keeping the Sunburst name. The Monclairs released two more 45s for Sunburst but were not as successful. They continued to play local clubs into the 1970s, as well as opening up for several national acts. In 1972 they released a 45 on the ABC label subsidiary APT records. Due to a conflict with another Monclairs on Paula records, the group was billed as the Soul Trainers although they continued to use the Monclairs name in Cleveland. .This disc has a slight edge lift and tiniest bit of label damage, otherwise EXCELLENT copy – Old “Stafford” spin – Pure CLASS, backed with a quirky but good instrumental “appy Feet Time” – Worth checking out!!
