Percy Tyrone Sledge was born on November 25th, 1941 in Leighton, Alabama and worked in a series of agricultural jobs in the fields in Leighton, before taking a job as an orderly at the Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama. Through the mid 1960’s, he toured ¬†with the Esquires Combo on weekends, while working at the hospital during the week. His first solo recording “When A Man Loves A Woman” was released in March 1966, reaching No. 1 in the US and becoming an international hit, continuing to record until his sad death on April 14th, 2015. This disc from 1967 has a “drill hole” and light wear to the label, otherwise is in EXCELLENT condition, worth checking out the flip too
