Percy Tyrone Sledge was born on November 25th, 1941 in Leighton, Alabama and worked in a series of agricultural jobs in the fields in Leighton, before taking a job as an orderly at the Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama. Through the mid 1960’s, he toured ¬†with the Esquires Combo on weekends, while working at the hospital during the week. His first solo recording “When A Man Loves A Woman” was released in March 1966, reaching No. 1 in the US and becoming an international hit, continuing to record until his sad death on April 14th, 2015. This disc from 1966 is in EXCELLENT condition, while the sleeve does have superficial wear with a small bit of biro, worth checking the flip too!
