The Showmen were from Norfolk, Virginia, comprising General Norman Johnson, Milton Wells, brothers Gene and Dorsey Knight, and Leslie Felton. They moved to New Orleans in May 1961 to record fifteen titles under the studio supervision of Allen Toussaint. They are best remembered for their track “It Will Stand”, issued on Minit Records, which reached number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961, they consequently went on to record for a number of labels. In 1968 Johnson amicably left the group, to begin his association with Holland-Dozier-Holland’s Invictus Records. He became leader of the group Chairmen of the Board. Although this track was originally released in 1967, this disc on this Spartanburg, South Carolina based label¬† was pressed in 1975 with a possibly previously unissued flip. The disc has light wear, conservatively graded in VG++ condition BUT is a “LO FI” recording, worth checking out the flip too
