Sylvester Thompson was born on 1st July 1936 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Syl Johnson sang and played in the 1950’s with many famous Blues artists before recording with Jimmy Reed for “Vee Jay” records in 1959, making his solo debut for “Federal” records in the same year. He then began recording for “Twinight” records in Chicago in the mid 1960’s, where he was successful as a singer and a producer. In 1971, Willie Mitchell signed Syl to “Hi” records, where he recorded more 45’s and albums. Syl Johnson then produced two albums for his own “Shama” records before “Semi” retiring. This discs from 1968 has superficial scuffs to the vinyl, whilst retaining a little gloss, conservatively graded in VG condition, worth checking out the flip
