In high school, she joined a group with Barbara Parritt (later Toomer), June Montiero, Betty Stokes and Betty Blocker, who eventually left the group, leaving the others as a trio. Singing as The Charlettes the did background vocals for several recording artists, then at a talent  they met Eddy Chase, who in turn introduced them Bob Crewe. The group became The Toys in 1961 and landed their first recording contract on “Dynovoice” records, where they enjoyed success, most notably with “A Lovers Concerto”.  In 1967, the group  moved to “Musicor” records, where they released one record before breaking up.
