“Argo” records was founded in Chicago in 1955 as the Jazz subsidiary of “Chess”. The Sensations formed in Philadelphia in 1954 as The Cavaliers, signing initially to “Atco” records and by 1957 they were managed by Kae Williams, but disbanded soon afterwards, and lead singer Yvonne Mills married and started a family. In 1961, bass singer Alphonso Howell persuaded Yvonne Mills Baker that the group should re-form, and they won a contract with “Chess” records subsidiary “Argo” records. Yvonne Baker later started a solo career, recording a number of tracks including the legendary “You Didn’t Say a Word” on “Parkway” records in 1966. This disc from 1962 has light wear whilst retaining gloss, conservatively graded in VG++ condition, worth checking out the flip too.
